If your dog has recently started Vetoryl, you might be wondering how long it will take for his or her symptoms to improve. Luckily, the manufacturer of Vetoryl has provided a timeline of improvement, which can give you an idea of what to expect. This timeline can be used in conjunction with the ACTH stim monitoring flowchart to determine if your dog is on the correct dose of Vetoryl. As you can see, clinical signs such as excessive thirst and urination typically improve within 30 days after the start of treatment while skin, coat, and muscle changes are slower to reverse.
Please note, this is a general timeline meant for informational purposes. There is no one-size-fits-all with Cushing’s treatment, and some dogs may take longer to improve than others. We strongly recommend that you contact your veterinarian with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your pet.
Day 0
Patient begins Vetoryl therapy.
Day 10
Reduced thirst
Reduced appetite
Reduced panting
More energy
Day 28
Normal thirst
Normal appetite
No excessive panting
Energy levels returned to normal
Month 3

Increased muscle tone and strength
Some hair regrowth
Month 6
Clinical signs of Cushing’s have significantly resolved or improved.
If still showing any signs consistent with Cushing’s syndrome, consider whether a dose increase or an increase in dose frequency would be of benefit to the dog. For further information refer to the treatment & monitoring flowchart.
