Supplements for Muscle Health

Below is a list of products that may be beneficial for dogs with muscle loss and hind leg weakness due to Cushing’s disease.

MYOS Canine Muscle Formula (containing Fortetropin)

This product was developed by MYOS, a muscle health company. It’s made from fertilized chicken egg yolks. There’s evidence that Fortetropin helps to build muscles and reduce muscle loss, which makes it potentially beneficial for dogs that have hind leg weakness from Cushing’s disease. It’s worth noting that this product has a high fat content (33%) and may not be safe for dogs with a history of pancreatitis or gallbladder issues.

Ursolyx soft chews

Ursolyx soft chews are another option for dogs with muscle loss. They are formulated with ursolic acid, a natural compound found in fruits, to reduce muscle wasting and build strength in dogs. Ursolyx chews contain less fat (18%) and protein (13%) than MYOS muscle formula, described above.

Goat's Milk

Goat's milk contains high levels of amino acids, which are essential for muscle growth and repair. It's also easier for dogs to digest than cow's milk. If your dog is experiencing muscle atrophy or hind leg weakness, consider adding a goat's milk topper or supplement to his or her food.
